2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here's an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,300 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 55 trips to carry that many people.

Now it’s been 60 years ago today my dad passed away. Sad but true. I always remember the day each year. I was 3 1/2.

I found this poem; I didn’t write it.

Still Missing You After All These Years

I was only eight years old
When mom told me had you died.
I didn’t fully know what it meant.
I felt numb, but I still cried.

I didn’t know how big a hole
your passing would leave.
I didn’t understand how much loneliness
I was about to receive.

Broken heart monument
As the years have gone by,
I’ve forgotten a few things,
Like the sound of your voice,
And how your laughter used to ring.

I can’t remember exactly what
It was like when you held me,
But I do remember it left me with
A feeling of warmth and security.

My first birthday spent without you
Was hardest after you were gone.
That first Christmas just wasn’t the same,
And it remains so as the years go on.

There have been thousands of times
When I’ve wished you were still here,
To celebrate all of my joys,
And help me calm my fear.

I’ve spent more of my life without you
Than with you, I’m sad to say.
But I want you to know I still love you,
And I think about you every day.

new blog

I decided to start a new blog for nature and everything else – jillpill51.wordpress.com – 51 – because I was born that year.

the red fox

My husband saw this fox and took its picture. Later he walked there and found some feathers, so the fox had eaten lunch there. I found this poem about the red fox.

Midwest facial expressions

I read this in a magazine this morning and thought it was quite accurate of Midwest ways. Will have to click on the picture to read the whole thing : )

snow snow snow

I took this short video this past week – such a very cold week; thankfully, we will get a few warmer days this next week : )

Juice Recipes

Juice fasting is a great way to restore your system to health and to lose weight at the same time.

Often your body tells you it is hungry when you really just need to drink some water, so drink one of these juices every time you feel hungry. This way you’re staying healthy and not engaging in unnecessary binge eating.

I just list the ingredients below – all you need to do is throw them in the blender and add some water! Feel free to change the ingredients, the most important thing is to find recipes that suit you and that you are comfortable drinking.

Colon Health (I’m always concerned about it):

Foods good for a healthy colon include a fruit salad along with fresh oatmeal for breakfast. Natural fruit juice along with that breakfast is not a bad idea either although it lacks the required amount of fiber and is recommended to be supplemented with some amount of water too.

For lunch salad with loads of dark green leafy vegetables can be classified under food good for a healthy colon. Increasing the quantity of romaine lettuce and spinach in the diet is a plus. Other good foods for a healthy colon are:
Broccoli
Carrots
cauliflower
kale
olives
artichokes
